GUINNESS WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT

MOST MILES RUN IN 7 CONSECUTIVE DAYS

30 MAY – 6 JUNE 2010 / SAN DIEGO, CA

Hi, I’m Mike Sheehy and I’m inviting you to help me in my attempt at breaking  the Guinness World Record for Most Miles Run in 7 Consecutive Days.  This will not only be an adventure of a lifetime, it is also a mission to raise awareness and funding for the fight against cancer!

Over the past four years, I’ve been training and participating in endurance events as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Team In Training Program in San Diego, CA.  During my time with Team,  I truly saw the impact cancer has on families and friends.  I went from being just a runner looking to help a friend, to a runner on a mission to rid the world of cancer.

At noon, on 30 May 2010, I will begin my epic adventure to break the current record of 351 miles.  I’ll be utilizing the last 13 miles of the new San Diego Rock n’ Roll Marathon course between Fashion Valley (mile marker 13) and Sea World (mile marker 26).  The control center (or party central) for this Guinness World Record Attempt will be the Hilton located on Mission Bay.

Why am I doing this? Over the years, I’ve learned that cancer doesn’t discriminate and can impact any of our lives at any moment.

Someone will be diagnosed with a blood cancer every four minutes and someone will die from blood cancer every 10 minutes.

Sadly, during my seven days of running, approximately 1,000 people in the US will die from a blood cancer. This is not okay!

I’ve met many remarkable people who inspired me to take on this challenge.  I met Colin, a  Boston qualifier who is a cancer survivor.  I met Joel, who was diagnosed with cancer was his lovely wife.  I’m happy to say both are now doing outstanding.  I met Roland who lost his father to cancer, and who runs to raise money every year in the hopes that no one else will lose a parent to cancer.  I met Molly, an oncology nurse, who after working her long and challenging shift would go straight to training for the marathon she was running for her entire ward.  And finally, my friend Julie who has now beaten cancer three times.  If they can all do what they do, then I can break the Guinness World Record in their honor!

But I need your help!

  • Please donate thru this site to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  You don’t know, but your donation might contain the “lucky dollar” that funds the cure for cancer!
  • Spread the word. Send this website link to all your friends and family.  Awareness is critical in the fight against cancer!
  • Come out and support my Guinness World Record Attempt.  If you come out, you will meet tons of folks: cancer survivors, LLS volunteers, families currently in the fight of their lives and the doctors and nurses treating our loved ones.  I promise you this experience will change your life!
  • Sign up to run or bike alongside me.

Please find it in your hearts to do any or all of the above.   I hope to see you all in San Diego for this adventure and Guinness World Record Attempt.
